ABC and tv provider

I use roku over the internet to get tv. When I want to view ABC I have to sign in and select a provider. Because I access roku over the internet I do not have a service provider. So is there another way to get ABC live stream or am I out of luck.

That "tv provider" service doesn't have to be a bloated cable or satellite service. There are several you can subscribe to and run on a Roku that may provide local channels and may carry the station you are interested in. Ones that come to mind to check out for any particular channel would include YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV, Sling, fubotv, and AT&T NOW -- there may be others.

Savings in cord cutting usually come from picking and choosing which of the lesser offerings you wish to pay for instead of paying for full blown cable or satellite services with scores of channels you never watch.

Re: ABC (thru and antenna and free) why we need a login with a provider

Could someone enlighten me?  Network TV - ABC, NBC, CBS... are all available for free (hence the ads) via an antenna.  So WHY when you want to access those same networks via a Roku app do we need to log on via a TV Provider.

You have to login with a TV provider for live channels such as ABC or NBC no matter which service you have. I currently have a Samsung tv and no antenna. Same thing happens to me. I too, wonder why we need to pay for a cable or sat provider when you can get those channels free OTA. Perhaps someday the broadcasters will change that since streaming is becoming much more popular than OTA tv.

Because those are the conditions specified by the owners of those channel apps, in this case the broadcast channels and/or the networks.

Frankly, I've wondered the same thing myself.
