I was wondering [before purchasing] what the maximum supported storage is for the outdoor cameras and is there a recommended brand for the micro SD cards? It doesn't appear the system is proprietary and most any will do?

There's no specific brand, since all Roku Smart Home cameras support micro SD cards up to 256GB, except for the Outdoor Camera SE. This camera, along with its base station, is limited to cards ranging from 8GB to 32GB. When a micro SD card is installed in the base station, it is used to back up recordings from the outdoor camera.
