Audio from Indoor Security SE Camera

My husband and I purchased three Roku Indoor Security Camera SEs in early 2023, believing they would provide peace of mind while my husband and I were out of town for work. Little did we know, these devices would become the catalyst for a devastating personal crisis. We mounted the cameras inside our home, facing outwards, to monitor the exterior of our property – front, side, and back. This setup inadvertently captured both indoor audio and outdoor video. The video quality has generally been acceptable, but the audio has been a source of constant, recurring, and utterly baffling distortion.

The core issue is this: the audio recordings consistently create the illusion of multiple voices engaged in conversation, even when I am the only person present. I am a stay at home wife with no friends or anybody that would come see me and I spend my days alone with my dog. Just for context, I do often talk to myself or him. So, these recordings are not clear; the words are often muffled, garbled, and difficult to decipher, however, two things remain clear. The sound of MY voice can be heard and the distinct presence of multiple voices is undeniable. It sounds like a low, distorted murmur of conversation, with occasional words cutting through the noise.

This issue isn’t a rare occurrence; it has happened hundreds of times over the past two years. My husband, upon reviewing some of these recordings, understandably misinterpreted the distorted audio as evidence of infidelity. Despite my repeated assurances and desperate attempts to explain the technical glitch, the recordings have become a constant source of suspicion and mistrust, ultimately fracturing our 18-year marriage.

I’ve spent countless hours researching online, searching for any explanation for this bizarre audio phenomenon. I’ve found a few scattered reports of similar issues with Roku cameras, but no concrete answers or solutions. This lack of information has only amplified the frustration and despair.

I contacted Roku support multiple times, detailing the problem and its devastating consequences. Their initial response was to offer a replacement camera, as if a new device would magically resolve a deep-seated technical flaw. I sent a lengthy, detailed email explaining the situation, emphasizing the recurring nature of the problem and the immense emotional distress it has caused. I specifically asked for any technical information about the audio processing of the camera, any insights into why this distortion might be happening, or even acknowledgment that they were aware of similar reports. Their final response was a dismissive email stating that the issue had been resolved and to contact them again if we had further problems. They completely ignored my detailed explanation and the severity of the situation. They offered no explanation, no apology, and no real assistance.

The impact of this faulty product has been profoundly catastrophic. It has created an insurmountable wedge between my husband and me, leading to the near-dissolution of our 18 year marriage. The emotional toll has been immense, leaving me feeling helpless, betrayed by a product I trusted, and desperate for answers.

I implore anyone considering purchasing a Roku Indoor Camera SE: DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. The potential for misinterpretation and the devastating consequences it can have on personal relationships far outweigh any perceived benefits. This is not just a minor glitch; it’s a serious flaw that can cause real harm. Save yourself the heartache and look elsewhere for your home security needs.

Also, if anybody can respond with some sort of answers or knowledge about this issue, PLEASE feel free to send me a message anytime. I am still so desperately trying to prove my innocence, give my husband clarity and put this all in the past. I can't seem to do that no matter how long or hard I try. Thanks for reading this lengthy review. Here's my email for contact.

Re: Audio from Indoor Security SE Camera

I too have had a similar experience with my indoor camera audio. When listening to a live feed or recordings of cameras setup inside my home, and no one present in the home, no TVs or other devices on that would produce sound, I constantly hear voices and conversations of specific individuals who are nowhere near my home at the time. I have confirmed with these individuals the audio I am hearing is in fact their real time conversations I am hearing. I am wondering and trying to determine if my devices have a technical glitch or are hacked somehow, or if I am hearing audio from these individuals because they have some sort of access to these devices/accounts and microphones on their phones or other roku devices are receiving the sound and somehow playing it back to my devices. I can hear these voices/conversations through the app on my phones, and also through the speaker on the back of my indoor cameras. More often than not there is a significant amount of static noise when I listen to the audio from these devices when they are simply sitting in an empty house with no air circulating (e.g. A/C or Furnace is not running), yet I can hear these voices/conversations under the static. Some cameras seem to have a larger amount of static than others (I have 5 devices). I have ensured the firmware has been updated on all of them.

Even worse, I feel as if these individuals also have the ability to hear audio and even potentially see video from my home in the same real time manor as I can hear the audio on their end.

Please, any technical support or advice on this phenomenon is greatly appreciated. This has become a security and safety issue for me, and I am very close to abandoning roku devices, including streaming devices all together.
