Adjusting volume via eARC on Roku TV causes a brief (2 sec) dropoff for audio.

We just bought a new 65" Roku TV as well as a home theater system and 7.2 Onkyo receiver with HDMI eARC capabilities. We were able to get everything set up and functioning as it should, including the ability to change the volume on the receiver via the Roku remote. The problem, however, is that this causes a brief (2 sec) drop in audio that immediately comes back on until the volume is adjusted again. Is there some setting that I can adjust to make this fluid (can easily hear the volume changes)? Or is this just due to the volume information updating and syncing across the TV and the Sound System? Please help as I feel like I have tried everything (power off both for a minute, replace HDMI cable, toggle settings between audio passthrough and back to auto, etc).
