Roku Ultra not remembering "watched" or partially watched programs on ALL apps

Just bought a new Ultra and it is not remembering ANY wathced or partially watched programs. I see other posts regarding YouTube TV and that we need to contact them BUT I have this problem regardless of which streaming app I use. I didn't have this problem with my old Ultra. Any advice? Should I just return this and get a new one?

Re: Roku Ultra not saving "watched" or partially "watched" programs on all apps

Thanks for reaching out, @SteveBay!

To help us look into the issue you're having, can you let us know what troubleshooting steps you've already tried? Also, what's the latest software version for your Roku Ultra?

Let us know if you have a chance!

Re: Roku Ultra not saving "watched" or partially "watched" programs on all apps

Here is what I have tried so far:

1) rebooted the device a few times

2) factory reset and reloaded the apps

3) checked, double checked and triple checked that the device has the latest update

Please do not respond by saying I have to contact Youtube tv because the problem is wider than just that app!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The device also seems to "remember" what "LIVE" program was watched last (for example in Pluto or YouTube TV) and automatically start playing that "LIVE" program from the point when we turned off the tv when I DON'T want that but it can't "remember" what programs were already watched or partially watched and note it via a progress bar at the bottom of the program/episode like our old device used to.

Re: Roku Ultra not saving "watched" or partially "watched" programs on all apps

@SteveBay

To address your unwanted feature you are seeing on Pluto and YoutubeTV.  On the new Ultra 4850, developers can take advantage of a feature called "instant resume".   https://developer.roku.com/docs/developer-program/media-playback/instant-resume.md

if you press Home button to exit certain apps that have this enabled, you will be brought back to your exit point (both for on-demand and livetv).

Instead of pressing Home to exit, use the Back button to completely exit out of app. (this will disengage/negate the Instant Resume for that viewing session on the channels/apps using Instant Resume).

The above feature is not/was not available on previous models of the Ultra so probably why you are seeing this difference in behavior.  Just kind of have to get used to exiting apps in the preferred manner depending on the app.  Unfortunately, no user setting to control this and kind of have to learn which apps are using/implementing the Instant Resume feature.

As for the Continue Watching https://developer.roku.com/docs/developer-program/discovery/continue-watching.md there are prerequisites for channels that participate in Continue Watching. (set forth in the link).  Did you look under the "What to Watch" section on the Home Screen to see if your programs were there under the Continue Watching section?  May have to enable What to Watch under Settings/Home Screen/What to Watch
