Helping My 95-year-old Dad Navigate to NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube

Hi There -- I live in California and am trying to help my 95-year-old father -- recently transplanted to Atlanta -- follow his 49ers. I thought signing up for NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube would be the easiest thing, but it seems that his Samsung TV (UN48J5000AFXZA) is manufactured in 2015 and they require 2017+. So next I thought he could go through Roku. I ordered him one but am now looking more closely at the YouTube requirements (https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/78358) and I don't see any sign of Roku as an approved streaming device. Does that mean it's incompatible? They list Amazon Fire Sticks but not Roku. I don't want to waste my dad's time or frustrate him if Roku won't work in this scenario. I called Google support and they said Roku IS compatible.

It'll be a whole other nightmare helping my dad learn how to navigate from his TV to the Roku HDMI to the YouTube app. Am I over-complicating this somehow? Should I just have him cough up for a brand new smart TV with the up-to-date YouTube app built in so he wouldn't require Roku at all? What a time sink! Very grateful to anyone who can share expertise and tips for how to help the old man make this happen before next Sunday's game! Many thanks!

I don’t know anything about “NFL Sunday Ticket on YouTube”, but I can tell you that YouTube itself works on Rokus.  The page you linked does include: “Roku TVs (all models)”, so I would guess that it’s just an oversight that they didn't list separate Roku players as well.

Banned but back. Because why not?

I am a NFL sunday ticket subscriber and I watch on my Roku TVs without any problems.

Thanks. Roku TV is called out as "OK" in the Google/YouTube requirements. But they don't mention Roku under the "streaming devices" section. Hopefully, per the previous poster, if it works for Roku TV then the plug-in Roku will work as well! Thanks for weighing in!
