14.5.4 5944 broke my 3810X streaming stick

Hello,

Ever since the 14.5.4 5944 update was auto installed my streaming stick no longer works,  I have done all the troubleshooting (power cycles, diff HDMI port, etc) except a factory reset which I would like to avoid.

On power up I see and hear the bouncing "Roku" logo fine, but then the screen goes black and a quick white "flash" appears before the TV tells me there is no signal.  If I connect to the stick on the phone app at this time, I can "trick" into showing the home screen on the TV, which is how I found out that this started the day of the latest update.  Apparently the home screen will eventually appear, but only after ~10 minutes leaving it on to hopefully let it fix itself with a patch (Haha).

Either way, the image on the TV is  now filled with distortion lines and static, and playing anything is accompanied by a loud "cracking" sound and unwatcheable,  This is for every channel we have loaded and the home screen.

Please help.

Thank you.

Re: 14.5.4 5944 broke my 3810X streaming stick

Sounds complex..I recently had a computer monitor go bad and it displayed similar characteristics to your TV.. are you able to view content other than that from the Roku stick? I have an Ultra 4800X and have only had minor issues after the recent update, though none at all as of late.

Also wondering if you've tried using an app like WiFi Analyzer for Android or something similar for iPhone. I mention this since the Stick does not have an Ethernet port and channel congestion can cause issues. Once installed, open it and view how many others nearby use the same channel/band then log into the router, disable the default 'auto' feature for channel selection and choose one with less congestion

Not sure what else to tell you and hope you find a solution

Hi @Czardaddy,

Welcome!

Thanks for letting us know about the problem with your Roku streaming stick. We appreciate the troubleshooting steps you've already tried. We need a few more details so we can look into it.

  • Do you have an external device, such as a soundbar or speakers, currently connected to the back of your TV?
  • Could you please share a photo or video clip with us?

Appreciate your help!

Thanks,

I can't seem to find a video icon....I may be blind.

I am able to watch now, found a tab I hadn't seen before that lets me force to 720P and the crackling and jittering stops, but it is a 1080P TV and the picture now looks a little washed out,

Re: 14.5.4 5944 broke my 3810X streaming stick

This is completely unacceptable and Roku needs to fix it immediately. The new update screwed up my Roku screensaver settings. It will no longer allow me to keep my screensaver wait time on 30 minutes, it keeps changing it back to 10 minutes every time the Roku is restarted or plugged back in. I created a topic on this new update glitch yesterday and so far Roku has not even bothered to respond.

The people at Roku forcing these updates are doing a terrible job. Since they are completely incompetent and don't properly test for bugs before forcing updates, Roku needs to add an option to rollback to the previous software version that actually worked.

This way people can still use their devices without problems while the bugs are being fixed and once they are corrected you can upgrade again. But will Roku ever do this? Of course not! It's been suggested before many times and ignored.

Roku is a terribly run company with people in charge who not only have zero common sense, but they also have no sympathy for the frustration they cause customers with their bad updates that break normal functions!

I looked a while for a "rollback" option, obviously with no success. :-!

Our team would like to investigate this. To help us take a closer look, can you send the following information?

  • Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and OS version. (This can all be found in Settings > System > About)
