Took my money

I had a 5 year subscription next thing you know someone from Roku is saying something is changing I’ve trying to avoid cause I thought it was a scam then a couple of days ago someone named Scott contacted me from roku saying my account is almost expired so I was very confused.. because I didn’t want my account to get canceled I paid for the 1 yr subscription which was $89.99 I have the receipt and everything and my account still got canceled I’m using roku on guest mode. I need help because y’all still took my money knowing my account still wouldn’t be fixed!!!!!!!

Re: Took my money

You are dealing with a SCAMMER!! There is no charge to use a Roku device.

Yes, it sounds like when you set up your roku, you called a scammer on the phone and he created a roku account of his own (which as @andyross said, cost him nothing), hooked your roku to it (using the activation code that you gave him) and then he charged you for it.  Then to bilk you for more, he put your roku into guest mode (which is meant for bed and breakfasts, visiting guests etc.)

Roku has never charged for setup or use of the device. If you have all the records of the transactions, you can attempt to contact your state's consumer protection agency, but the complaint is probably going to be against some foreign scammer, rather than a US-based scammer. Regardless, you've not been dealing with Roku for any of that.

My suggestion would be to go to Settings > System > About and see what email address is tied to the account.

Next, I'd log in to your Roku account and change the password. If a scammer was "helping" you set it up, they may have your Roku account information. Change the password. Never never never never never give that info to anyone.

You'll want to go to https://my.roku.com and check for purchases and subscriptions. If there are any you don't recognize, let Roku know immediately. And cancel any subscriptions you don't recognize. That is for subscribing to things like Netflix, Hulu, or other services, not for using the Roku itself (that's free).

Best of luck with things.
