Scam or not?

Did Roku send this out or not?

“Dear Roku Customer,

We are sending this email to update you on the possibility that Google may take away your access to the YouTube TV channel on Roku. Recent negotiations with Google to carry YouTube TV have broken down because Roku cannot accept Google’s unfair terms as we believe they could harm our users.

Ensuring a great streaming experience at an exceptional value is the core of our business. We will always stand up for our users, which is why we cannot accept Google's unfair and anticompetitive requirements to manipulate your search results, impact the usage of your data and ultimately cost you more.

While we are deeply disappointed in Google’s decision to use their monopoly power to try and force terms that will directly harm streamers, we remain committed to reaching an agreement with Google that preserves your access to YouTube TV, protects your data and ensures a level playing field for companies to compete. We encourage you to contact Google and urge them to reach an agreement to continue offering YouTube TV on Roku and to follow standard industry practices pledging not to require access to sensitive search data or to manipulate your search results.

Thank you,

Roku“

YouTube TV will no longer be available on Roku?

I have 4 Roku devices purchased in the last year so that I can watch YouTube TV at home. I received an email from Roku indicating that it will no longer be available. Now, my 4 Roku devices are worthless and I will have to purchase a fire stick. Is anyone else frustrated?

Re: Scam or not?

I think it’s a hack. There’s been no official press release on this and if you look at the “view online” URL it’s an unsecured page so could be a “fishing” expedition.

I think it should be reported to Roku.

Re: Scam or not?

I am also hoping that this is a scam.  I've had over 2+ years of emails coming from Roku - purchase confirmations, account changes, news updates, etc., and not one of them has come from that email address.  Also, someone on another thread mentioned that a Google representative stated that they had no information regarding this change.  Checking around online provides no real information credited to a valid news source - all the articles are simply referencing the email.  Very interesting...hoping that this is all just a misunderstanding.

Losing Access to You Tube TV?

I recently received a notification that I may lose access to You Tube TV via ROKU.  If that happens, I may be forced to get rid of my ROKU device so I hope that the negotiation lines are kept open as You Tube TV is my principal supplier of Cable and Network TV.

Re: Scam or not?

Hi Mary,

Thanks for replying to us.  I know that Roku is a huge company, and that you are only one person, but I felt it worthwhile to mention that I will unfortunately have to find a new streaming platform if YouTube TV is no longer available to me. I'm sure there are thousands of people who agree with me.  I've been a loyal Roku customer for years, and have always enjoyed the service.  I don't want to leave, but I feel as if I'll have no choice - I watch YouTube TV 80% of the time. Google's shady tactics have been known to many for a long time.  It's up to the consumer to choose what companies they support.  Like I said I really appreciate your response and hope that an agreement can be reached that satisfies all parties involved.  Have a wonderful day! Re: Scam or not?

There are multiple sources confirming this. We depend on both Roku and YoutubeTV. I sure hope they get this straightened out.
