If you read that article closely, you will see they are stating that it's bogus web sites that provide the false info and warnings. There's never been a documented case of the actual scam information appearing on the Roku device itself.
The bottom line is to always ensure you're on the legitimate Roku web site, and if anything anywhere offers assistance for a fee, or claims a payment is necessary to continue using your Roku, it's a scam.
