Why do I have to enter a credit card I don't even have one

You don't have to. There should be a link in the signup process that will allow you to skip that. Roku offers it for "convenience" but it can be skipped. They don't make it really easy, but there is a way. Scan the page. It's there. https://my.roku.com/signup/nocc
