Why are we paying $54.99 a month for Roku? Says Vidgo but we cancelled that May 15th.

Jump to solution

Just realized we are being charged $54.99 a  month for Roku.  We don't have Hulu, Netflix or anything like that.  We did have Vidgo for 2 months which was supposed to be a promotional thing for something cheap.  Now it says Vidgo $54.99 but we cancelled that on May 15th.  Thought once we bought the stick, most of the shows were free, unless we agreed to pay for them.  About ready to forget the whole thing.

Hello @oldguy22

Thanks for the post.

For account & billing concerns, it may be more effective to get help from our Billing team. You can contact them here: support.roku.com/contactus then choose 'Questions about my account or billing' on the drop-down menu. They are the best ones to help you out with that matter.

All the best,
Kariza

Based on info from Vidgo... https://www.vidgo.com/

Looks like first month is $10.  Subsequent months are $55 unless cancelled.

Almost all the paid/subscription services are billed monthly. (Some have yearly, but most are monthly).  The monthly is way to go because it allows you to cancel, generally, at any time.  However, there is no pro-rating.  You can cancel mid-month, but you still have access to content until end of month. (As such, billed for entire month).  You do have to keep an eye on when subscriptions are going to renew because they automatically renew, they rarely, if at all, will automatically expire.

You can view your subscriptions on your online dashboard.  https://my.roku.com/account  and then navigate to Manage Subscriptions.

You can watch a ton of free Channels on the Roku stick.  You do not have to purchase any paid/subscription Channels.  From the Roku Home page, navigate to Streaming Channels...Top Free Movies and TV.   Start with Tubi and Filmrise.  There are plenty of other free Channels.

I don't have any paid Channels, sometimes sign up for free trials (but rarely).  As you become more familiar with the streaming of Roku, you will learn how to get the shows you want.

Post back if you need more details.  Maybe you can ask Vidgo for refund, but if you cancelled after the renewal date, usually out of luck...but always worth a shot.
