Tv signed in to another person's account

Jump to solution

My rokutv is linked to another person's account. I have had this tv over a year. Im sure the tv was packaged as a new tv and I would have ran set up when I got it.

But today when I went to add a channel it asked for a pin. Upon investigating I found the tv is linked to someone elses email and credit card.

Hi @MelodyBeaz,

Welcome to the Roku Community!

If your Roku device is already linked to a different Roku account, we suggest performing a factory reset and re-do the activation process. Try running the steps on this link to factory reset the Roku device How do I factory reset my Roku® streaming device? then link your Roku account to the Roku device, You may also refer to this link How do I activate or link my Roku® streaming device?

Please try doing this and see if it helps with what you're experiencing.

This same thing happened to me. I did a factory reset & it worked. Just curious how this happened. Do you have any idea?

Hi @Itsmejamie

Thanks for posting here in Roku Community.

It's great to hear that you were able to resolve the issue with a factory reset. As for how this happened, there could be a few reasons why your Roku TV was signed into someone else's account. Here are a few possibilities:

  • Someone else may have signed in to your Roku TV using their account.
  • Your Roku TV may have been previously owned or used by someone else.
  • You may have accidentally signed in to someone else's account when setting up your Roku TV.

Regardless of the cause, it's always a good idea to do a factory reset if you encounter an issue like this. This will wipe all of the settings and data from your Roku TV and give you a fresh start. And link the Roku TV to your Roku account.

Let us know if you have any other concerns.

Nimfa
