Transfer the ownership of my Roku Express to a new owner

Jump to solution

I am temporarily trading my Roku Express device.

The device I traded is stil listed on MY account.

The new owner cannot access his accounts because the email and the passwords are still linked to me and that device.

How do we successfully deregister that device to the new owner?

Do I just unlink it from my account?

Is there any way I can transfer the ownership so he can access his apps and programs?  I have the access emails and passwords for both MY traded device and his device.

Thanks for your help.

The Roku doesn't care. When you do the factory reset, it's like a brand new out-of-the box Roku.

On the Roku, do a Factory Reset. If you can log in, it's Settings/System/Advanced system settings/Factory Reset. There is also a manual reset if needed.

You should also unlink it from your account.

I am giving my neighbor my Roku as I don't need it anymore. Do they do a reset to take it off my account? If so won't this erase the ROKU I'm keeping?

Go to https://my.roku.com/account and scroll to the bottom. That will list all your linked devices. If the name is not obvious, you can double-check the serial number. Unlinking it will just unlink that one device. It won't affect the others.

To factory reset the 'old' Roku, and if they cannot do it through the menus, then this is procedure to do it manually.

What if they do not have the same internet provider?
