Switching accounts

Jump to solution

I got a Roku device from my brother-in-law and I want to switch his account to my account. How do I do that? How do I get his info off and my info on?

Do a Factory Reset to clear everything out of the Roku.  Find the command to do this in the Settings > System > Advanced system settings menu.

You'll then have to follow the prompts to set the Roku up from scratch.  If you don't already have your own Roku account to link it to it will lead you through creating one.

[Edit:
The paragraph below no longer applies as Roku now uses a different, email-based, registration system.]

IMPORTANT!  Note, when you are directed to go to roku.com/link to link your new device, type it in very carefully and verify that you actually do go there.  Otherwise you can end up at a scammer's fake Roku site.  If you end up at ANY non-roku.com site (other than the https://my.roku.com/link that you'll get redirected to), back out and try again.

Re: Switching accounts (&possibly remote??)

I did the reset, only now I'm in start up screen "let's get started" n it's asking for my language.  It seems to be frozen cuz I can't do anything but power down then back on. It's been ten minutes already so should I wait a bit?? Or is it possible I have to reset my remote as well??

@Vanevaughn, does your remote have a button on the back or inside the battery compartment?  If so press and hold the button until the pairing light starts to flash and then connect the power to the Roku device.

If not, or even if so, try new batteries in the remote.
