My parents have Verizon FiOS at home, but I am away at college trying to access channels such as ESPN, truTV, etc. (on the Roku apps) but it keeps telling me to upgrade my Verizon cable subscription.
It was working fine yesterday and there have been no changes to the cable plan.
Any advice?
Do you log in to different Verizon FiOS accounts? That is, you log in to one account to watch some apps, and another to watch other apps?

Same provider. No TV networks apps will work, it tells me to upgrade my cable plan, which is obviously not necessary.
Sometimes, apps for cable networks from the same family -- for example, the ones that are all owned by Discovery, or the ones owned by NBC/Universal -- will experience an issue because of some issue on their end. That would be the thing in common that's causing the issue with several apps.
However, you've mentioned apps for channels that are completely unrelated. ESPN is owned by ABC/Disney and TruTV is owned by Warner. So, what's the common thing. Well, there are two.
One is of course, they are Roku apps. But this isn't a wide-spread thing. Roku devices are in use by millions of people. If suddenly Roku was the issue, it would be very wide-spread and this forum would be inundated with complaints about it.
Another is that specific Roku device. It could be that Roku device has corrupt data stored with the apps. To remove that, you would 1) remove the apps in question, then 2) reboot the Roku, then 3) reinstall the apps. Do all three of those steps, and do them in that order.
So, what's the other thing? That Verizon FiOS account. Could be a temporary hiccup on their end. Or, it could be that something else is going on.
To test that, you should be able to access those services (ESPN, for instance) on a Web browser and try to authenticate with the Verizon FiOS credentials. If it doesn't work, you should contact Verizon FiOS and let them know the credentials from that account aren't working for you.
If it does work, then let us know, and we'll re-evaluate based on the results of what you did. Be sure to let us know the steps you did if it still doesn't work.

Having the same problem with Roku and Fire TV. Use a vpn on your device when you get a code if you can. Fire is annoying because some apps don't give you a code and want you to sign in on the TV. Looking into getting the VPN on the router, but not happy about it. Amazon is way too intrusive. The situation is very annoying, and I read somewhere it's likely a problem on Verizon's end. Additionally, their customer service has deteriorated appreciable and wasn't that great in the first place. If I find that article that had a possible explanation I'll post it.
