Merging 2 roku devices onto same account

Jump to solution

My parents recently gave me their Roku 2, which brings me to 2 roku devices. I would like to link the accounts so that their viewing preferences are no longer on the one they gave me and everything I have on my original Roku will show up on the "newer" one. How can I link my 2 devices or sync them?

You have to do a factory rest of your parents roku, then you get a link code to link it to your account.

@Godilox, first, please don't use all CAPs.

There's no way to "merge" devices onto one account, per se.  You have to factory reset one of the devices and then link it to the other account.  You'll want to close the factory reset device's old account and cancel any Roku subscriptions that were on that account.  You can see any subscriptions when you go to https://my.roku.com/account/subscriptions and sign in with that account's credentials.  If you have any subscriptions that weren't through Roku (e.g., Netflix) those subscriptions won't be affected, but you will have to sign in again once you factory reset the device.  If both you and your son have separate subscriptions directly with a provider (like Netflix), you'll have to cancel one of them through that provider.  That's not a Roku issue.

Note that Roku devices linked to the same account will have the same channels/apps and adding/removing a channel to/from one will add/remove it to/from the other.

Do you cancel the old account before, or after, resetting the old device?

@Blaze2, I don't think it matters, but I would probably get everything moved to the one account and then close the other.

Hi @Blaze2, It would be preferable to cancel the subscriptions linked to your old account before you reset your device. You can always visit the Roku website and log in at https://my.roku.com/signin?next=https%3A%2F%2Fmy.roku.com%2F to manage subscriptions from there as well! Please let us know if you have any other questions and we'll be happy to help.
