Re: Exclusive offer to upgrade your outdated device

My original question concerned a personalised offer (to me in the uk) that I assume is a phishing attempt. Still unsure about the safety of that site, it needs to be taken down if fraudulent.

Re: Exclusive offer to upgrade your outdated device

If its fraudulent, who's going to take it down?

You might consider messaging @RokuDanny-R  or @MaryFranco  and confirming with them whether this is an official Roku UK site/offer or not.

Re: Exclusive offer to upgrade your outdated device

If it's fraudulent then Roku have to approach the name registrar and get it removed.

For the record, I had several more emails and I followed the link and ordered a Roku Premiere, normally £40 and it cost just £25. I figured if I paid via PayPal I would be able to open a case and get my money back. The seller was Activateondemand on my PayPal statement.

Anyway, the device was delivered a day later, brand new and in sealed packaging. Now we have a definite answer that the URL is not a scamming website. Hope this helps others.

Re: Exclusive offer to upgrade your outdated device

I received a very similar email/offer yesterday. FWIW it looks "genuine" to me.

It's the same offer as mentioned above... UK only, Roku Premiere for £24.99 (reduced from £39.99). Same website (rokuupgrade.co.uk), same seller "Activate OnDemand (AOD) Ltd" (which appears to be acting as the middle man between Roku and the customer).

However, the email is tailored more for me. The subject is "Save 35% on an additional Roku player". Which is accurate as I'm a relatively new "Roku Express" owner. And the small print does state "For owners of Roku TV, Roku Express (3930EU), and Roku Premiere (3920EU) only." - yep, that's me. The email is also sent to the unique email address I have used only for my Roku account. However, my name is not mentioned at all in the email.

All the main links in the email itself are actually for "roku.com" - these have tracking information and redirect to "rokuupgrade.co.uk". And "rokuupgrade.co.uk" is stated in the email.

Gmail has not identified the email as spam - this is a very positive sign for me as it is very rare for Gmail to miss a spam email. The DKIM header appears to be authenticated OK. (I get about 20-30 spam emails a day and 99.9% of the time Gmail identifies all of them.)

"Activate OnDemand (AOD) Ltd" seem to be a reasonably new company (incorporated 3-Sept-2019 - listed on gov.uk / "Companies House") that appears to act as the "middle-man" between "consumers and brands".

However, I agree, it does at first look a bit dodgy! There could be more done to explain the affiliation between Roku, "rokuupgrade.co.uk" and "Activate OnDemand (AOD) Ltd". (Using a subdomain of the main domain would be preferable.) But I'm assuming it is just a third party company they are working with. (?)
