Does a Roku 2 retain personal data?

Jump to solution

I recently upgraded to a Roku tv and I disconnected my Roku 2 device. I was wondering if the "2" device retained any log-in data etc. I want to just send it along to Goodwill with other stuff but now I am wondering. I see the "unlink" option in my account and was wondering if that would prevent any of my concerns.

Yes, it does retain some of your personal information, mostly login credentials to channels that use them.  Since you've unlinked it from your account, it no longer can charge anything to your account. As mentioned, a factory reset clears all personal information from the memory.

I would do a factory reset as well.
