@Whydon't I see costs listed for contract agreements for 2 yrs, 5 yrs, 7 yrs, and lifetime to use the service. I thought Roku is free, unless you rent, buy or subscribe to a channel that's considered prime, e.g. Showtime, HBO, etc. I have been notified, via text, that I have to renew and select the 2/5/7/lifetime @ costs for 2 yrs/$149.99, 5 yrs/$199.99, 7 yrs/$249.99, or lifetime/$299.99. Please explain!
Yes, there is no "contract agreement" regarding daily, weekly, monthly, or lifetime pricing plans. You only pay for the Roku device itself. The Roku platform itself is free. Certain Channels on the Roku platform charge a monthly service. Other Channels entirely free. You do not pay any kind of fee to use the Roku.
A good starting point may be for you and your friend to visit Roku's homepage https://www.roku.com/ and read "How it Works". This website will explain how Roku works.
Make sure you setup your Roku device through the Roku.com website and view your settings under the My Account Dashboard after you login. You have to make sure you type in the correct website links during the setup of Roku and avoid browser misredirects or spelling errors.

By the way, I just logged into my Roku account and I couldn't find a place to enter a phone number. Even under the communication center, it only wanted to know how much email I wanted, nothing about a phone number.
