Charged for clicking an app

Jump to solution

Why am I being charged for simply clicking on an app like Frindly and being charged without my permission? No! An authorization pop-up did not pop up and ask me. Thus, the surprise of several app charges. I may go back to Fire TV for simplicity.

Hey @Jenngie05

Welcome to the Roku Community!

Thank you for reporting the unrecognized charge on your account. Roku provides both free and paid apps. When you choose an app, you’ll see options like free, free trial, and paid subscriptions. To access premium apps that charge monthly or annually, you must sign up first. If you select a free app, there are no fees involved.

To discover free Roku content, check out our Featured Free section for assistance, and visit our support page: Learn how to cancel a subscription and create a Roku PIN to prevent accidental purchases or unauthorized charges.
Thanks,

Set up a pin to prevent accidental purchases or remove your card information, if you have no subscriptions through Roku.

Personally, I would dispute the charge and contact the channel's customer support and request a refund.

It is also possible you are being scammed, and your card information was compromised somewhere, and those charges only appear to be streaming charges.  I have never gotten charged for just clicking on any app ever, so I am not sure how that would happen, unless you clicked to subscribe or purchase a movie.  However, that involves more than just clicking on the app to check it out.
