Whistling noise from remote

I bought our Roku a month ago. The remote stopped working so I changed the batteries. Now, the remote makes a very loud whistling sound every few minutes. I changed the batteries again and paired the remote with the tv again, it is still making the noise.

Is this a model that includes a remote finder button on top?   None of my Rokus have this feature so I don't know what sort of noise the finder makes by default (although I've read it can be changed), or whether the noise it makes is continuous or intermittent.  If have one of these models, see if there us something depressing the button, or if the button is stuck in the depressed position.

      Hello,

My remote is doing the same thing and I just replaced it a month ago. How can I get this fixed?

I’ve removed the batteries, I’ve tried to sync it, removed the power from the little roku box. Nothing is working at all. I can use my phone as a remote but it’s getting old! I paid $20 for this remote just a few months ago and it’s not working. It’s one of those voice remotes as well. My son had broke the one that originally came with it, that’s why we bought another one.

My remote stopped working and now makes a squeaking noise. Have tried different batteries, and re-pairing the remote — I can’t even get a light to show on the back of the remote. Help?

  • My roku remote is making the whistling noise and won’t work. Tried new batteries with no luck. Any solutions?

  • I have the same issue with a Roku stick remote. I just identified the high pitch as coming from the remote. Interestingly...lately the device (not the remote) has also been throwing the overheated warning quite often even with using an HDMI extender. I'm wondering if the whole product is entering the end of life? RokuDanny-R can you help?

      Hi mtclimber03,

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community! I'd be happy to take a closer look to see how we can help.

Could you please provide the serial number of your Roku device by going to Settings > System > About.

Please be aware that it's fairly normal for your device to get warm during use, but if you are seeing a message on the screen mentioning overheating, there are a few things you can do to help.
For more information visit our Support page here: What should I do if the red light is on or I see a “Your ...
I'd recommend ordering a free HDMI extender at https://my.roku.com/HDMI and seeing if that resolved your issue.

      Please keep us posted.

      Thanks,

      Mary

My remote began to fail and then suddenly started to emit a low humming noise. I changed batteries and the remote doesn't work but still hums. System is 2 years old. Other room remote has started to hum also. What gives?

I noticed a high piched sound when I paused a show using the remote.

So I hit play and then paused again and sound went away.

Hmmmm, interesting ...........please post more as you figure something else because these forums are a good resourse to assist US in troubleshooting.
