Volume button changes tv input

My Roku remote is functioning, however the volume up button is raising volume but also changing tv input. I have to use the tv remote to change input back to the appropriate hdmi port every time I hit the volume up button on the Roku remote.

  • WELL WELL, Another user entered his Sharp TV as a Vizio and fixed the problem. I did the same thing and it worked for me as well.

  • Hello, I have tried several different ways mentioned in the forum to program my Voice remote. I finally got the mute button working, however the volume up and down does two functions at once,

    1. operates the volume up and down while simultaneously changing the media inputs from, anyview Stream, to HDMI 1 I hope someone can help through this issue :-)

  • FIXED!!!!!
I lied and set my Sharp Tv to a Vizio and it work. I did that because my Vizio remote works the sound and volume on my Sharp.

    3. Select System.
    4. Select Power (if you do not see a Power submenu, skip to the next step).

Hi, db11823 thank you for posting here in the Roku Community!

We understand that you are having some difficulty with the volume button on your Roku remote, and we want to assist you in resolving this matter. Please allow us to share some troubleshooting steps that may help improve the situation.

We kindly suggest considering the following steps:

        1. Press Home on your Roku voice remote
        2. Scroll and select Settings
        3. Select Remotes & devices
        4. Select Remote
        5. Choose your voice remote from the list and select Set up remote for TV control
        6. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the process
        NOTE:
        1. When you hear music playing, select Yes to confirm. If you do not hear music playing, try increasing the volume using your TV remote.
        2. Next, your Roku device attempts to mute the volume using remote codes for the detected TV brand. If the music stops, select Yes.
        3. If the music continues to play, select No. Your Roku device was unable to detect the correct information about your TV, however, you can manually enter the brand by selecting Enter TV brand.
        4. As you enter the brand using the on-screen keyboard, a list to the right populates. After you select the brand, the music begins playing again. Select Yes when you hear it. As before, your Roku device again attempts to mute volume, this time using the first of multiple remote codes for the TV brand you entered. After each code is attempted, you are asked if the music stops playing. When it does, select Yes.
        5. Your Roku voice remote is now programmed to control both power and volume on your TV. Select OK to continue.
Please let us know if the issue is fixed or reply back to the thread for further assistance, we will be glad to help you.

        Thanks,
        Jharra

I am also having this issue on my sharp TV, the volume up button the Roku remote changes the input on the tv as well as turns the volume up, and the volume down button will change the aspect ratio of the tv as well and turn the volume down. I just purchased the device last night and already had this issue as soon as I set the remote up for tv control.

I would go back and pick a different IR code.  ie: lie to it and tell it that the first code that seems to work (presumably the one you have now) doesn't work.  That will cause it to try another code.  This may have to be done just once, or several times to get to a code that works perfectly.  Unfortunately, for some TVs, there can be a dozen codes that work to overlapping degrees.
