Voice Remote Pro (2nd Edition) hands free controls are not activating

I just purchased a brand new Hisense Roku Smart TV H4 Series and specifically purchased an upgraded Roku Voice Remote Pro with backlighting and Hands Free Controls and USB charging cable (it is charged to 85% at the moment). 

I have gone through all steps to pair new remote with TV, the voice commands work very sporadically, but the Hands Free control has never worked.  I have re-paired the device many many many times (as well as unplugged TV and waited several minutes, unplugged Internet and waited several minutes before plugging back in) with no luck in getting this remote to work consistently by using voice commands, and as I said the Hands Free control does not work at all (the hands-free button is on, in green position).  have I just wasted $30.00 on this remote or is there a way to fix these issues. 

One of the big reasons i purchased this remote was for hands-free and voice control!  Please help!

  • I had the same problem with A brand new Roku Ultra 2024 4850. Doing the remote reset/repair procedure, hold home key and back button for 20 seconds, about 15 times got the hands-free free to start working. Everytime you pair you will get the pair screen. Press continue. On the next screen say Hey Roku, if you don't see Listening just keep on resetting and trying the Hey Roku command on the second screen until it starts to work.

  • Tried all that and it didn't work… Attempted to "pair" the device is about 10 times before it finally took. Problem seems corrected at this point

      Could you please provide a bit more info so I can assist you better?

      • The model number of your Roku remote.
      • What have you tried to fix the issue so far? Things like restarting the system, rebooting the remote, or re-pairing it?
      • When and where did you buy the remote? Did it come with a Roku device or Roku TV, or did you buy it on its own?

      In the meantime, you can consider using the Roku mobile app as an alternative. Here’s the link to download the app for free.

    Thanks for bringing this to us!

    It looks like you’re having some trouble with the hands-free feature on your Roku Voice Remote Pro (2nd edition). Let’s try restarting your device to see if that fixes this.

    Just follow these steps: Go to Home > Settings > System > Power > System Restart.

    Give this a try and let us know how it works.

    Hey Bear300 , thanks for reaching out! It sounds like you’ve done a lot already, and we know how frustrating that can be.

    One thing to try if you haven’t yet — head to Settings > System > System update and check for any available updates. After that, using the System menu again, give your TV a quick restart. That usually helps get hands-free features working properly.

      Hello RokuAustin; thank you for response.  I tried your suggestions, the systems on the TV are up to date and also tried the Quick Restart, this did not help with the either the hands-free feature or voice response on the remote.  We purchased this device at our local Wal-mart Store just yesterday, do you think we could have received a bad device and if so, will Wal-Mart exchange it for a new device?  Seems a shame that we paid for an upgraded remote to not have these features work, these are the biggest reasons we upgraded to the Voice Remote Pro.

        Bear300 Liketolickem Ah, let's try restarting the remote fully, there's a trick. Hold down the Home button and the Back button on the remote for a full 20 seconds.

  • Having the same exact issues… Only 4 months since I bought it. Worked great, then out of the blue last night, just stopped working. Not like I've been hard on it… Other than setting it up, I have LITERALLY not touched it except to recharge the battery twice in all that time.

      After "pairing" it for like the 10th time, finally it started working and has been fine for about 24 hours. Using it with the voice button was fine even when it wasn't working, hands-free is what was screwing up.
