Hi MLSMCKM,
A warm welcome to the Roku Community!
Please note that this can be as simple as using them as two shortcuts for apps without a button, like "open Netflix" or "open Peacock." But you can also use the shortcut buttons for searches ("show me free movies").
For more references on how Roku voice commands can work with Roku devices, visit our support article.
If you have any other questions or concerns, please let us know.
All the best,
Chel

Your Roku itself is coded to recognize voice commands from a Roku Voice Remote. So you can direct it to load a channel, choose from Roku menu options, etc. The article referenced by RokuJechealR will tell you more about these voice command options.
Voice control options WITHIN channels, other than Roku's own The Roku Channel, may be limited or absent, depending on whether the developers of that particular channel app programmed in recognition of Roku voice commands.
