Absolutely you can use a Roku TV as a dumb TV. To be honest, that's my preferred way to use a Roku TV or any other so-called "smart" TV.

This is just what i need for my Mom, who is 92 and just moved into assisted living. Despite our best efforts, 'smart' tvs are just too involved. How exactly do you make the ROKUtv a dumb one ? i'd like it for it to turn on and just go straight to her xfinity cable box. [ Right now it is a choice she needs to make, just like picking netflix or hulu]

JokerDOGG, you don't necessarily need to turn it into a "dumb" TV to accomplish what you want. Just set the "Power on" input to the cable box's input under Settings->System->Power. If you do want to get rid of the Roku apps and just have a "dumb" TV, you have to factory reset it. When you set it up again, just tell it there's no Internet connection and you'll end up with a very basic Home Screen. You'll still want to set up the "Power on" input to the cable box. It's the same procedure as described above.
