Unable to connect Roku to my Wifi

I started off using a Roku Express, I have my wifi setup to use WPA3 Personal and only to use the 5ghz connection and the SSID hidden. After fiddling with my Wifi settings, I tried changing to wpa2 and unhiding the ssid. My router has already been restarted and factory reset. The Roku could not even find the ssid when i unhid it, but other devices in my house could. Then I found out the Express might not work with wpa3 and 5ghz. I read that the Roku Ultra 2024 model did, so I went out and bought one. But I am still having issues connecting it to my wifi with settings set to WPA3 Personal, 5ghz only, and SSID Hidden. are there any other settings on a router that might affect a Roku's ability to connect to wifi?

  • What is the brand/model of the router and why do you use WPA3 when WPA2 is recommended? I suggest you do a hard reset on the router and use the default settings. I have the Roku Ultra but use power line adapters since wired is far more stable and won't be impacted by channel congestion like wireless tends to be. Regardless, it sounds like your router setup isn't correctly done

    Hi. The_Watcher1

    Welcome!

Thanks for sharing your concern with us here.

One of your Roku Gurus, jontalk has provided a useful tip on this matter. You can give this a try and see if it helps. The step appears to be appropriate since the issue started right after changing the settings on your router.

    Keep us posted!

    Thanks,

  • My Router Setup is done correctly. Everything but the Roku works. What are settings that would affect the Roku's ability to connect? So, the Roku Ultra is not capable of using WPA3 Personal?

    This post says it is.

There is no information about what other settings might cause the Roku not to connect? I do not want to limit my security so much by factory resetting and using default settings.

Just to verify some things, when you go to Settings/System/About on your new Ultra device, are you seeing Ultra 4850? (this is the only Ultra model currently capable of wifi6(ax) and using WPA3-Personal.

Also, what is the make and model number of the router you are using?  Additionally, are you using any ISP or router/network apps that may be "blocking" network discovery (ie. have to whitelist new connections through an app).
