Stuck in a loop. Won’t set up roku

I’m setting up a Roku express in my bedroom. It goes from the language page to the internet connection. It shows it’s connected. Then it looks for system updates. Then has the Roku letters and goes back to the language page. A never ending loop

  • One more thing to try - if you're using the TV's USB port for power try a USB power adapter plugged into the wall.  Either the one that came with it or one from a phone/tablet if it didn't come with one.

  • I am having the same issue. Doesn’t appear to be a network issue. Connecting to Wi-Fi just fine. It then runs the software update and then restarts. When it restarts it goes back to language selection and the process starts all over again. Seems to Ben caught in a loop at the software update.

That’s exactly what’s happening to me. There are no numbers to call anyone at Roku. So incredibly frustrating!

      Hi Aherrlinger Db1anddb2

Thanks for posting in the Roku Community regarding the issue you are experiencing.

As renojim had inquired, how are you powering the Roku device?

With more detailed information, we will be able to assist you further. We look forward to hearing back from you.

      Thanks,
      Danny

I was using the usb port on the tv. Per suggestion I switched to a power adapter for an iPhone charger and it solved the problem. Thanks for the help.

There are a couple of things people have reported worked when a setup fails to complete.

Easiest to try, so try this first: Restart your router, even if other devices have no trouble connecting. When your router has completed its startup, try repeating your Roku setup.

More involved: Repeat the setup by connecting to a different wifi network - perhaps via a wifi hotspot on your mobile phone or by taking it to a friend's house - and see if it will complete the startup. If successful, then redo the wifi connection to use your intended wifi network via Settings > Network > Set up connection.

  • I just had this issue and resetting the roku device worked for me. To reset, press the button for 15 seconds and when it restarts, go through the same steps and hopefully the update works this time (it did for me).

    Thanks!
