Star button doesn't open up picture settings for some reason

Renojim,

Thanks for your input. In this situation, it's a Roku stick on an 10-year+ Sony TV. (We have other Roku TVs that are working fine.)

However, the real problem is that we occasionally (usually in the evenings) get only sound with a blank screen (even with CC showing). I assumed (maybe incorrectly) that the problem was related to the fact that we don't get Picture Settings to come up when I hit the * button. 

So, if that is not the issue, do you have any suggestions for the blank screen we're getting?

    dcampbell678, I've seen other people report something similar, but the only recommendation I've seen is to perform a "System restart" found under Settings->System or Settings->System->Power.  If that works, unfortunately Roku seems to think that's a solution even if you have to do it over and over again.

      This seems to be working so far. One more question: Do you think it would help if I replaced the Roku stick? Or is that not going to help?

        dcampbell678, I don't know.  Since I've never seen the root cause of the "sound but no picture" issue on Roku devices (on TVs, it's usually the backlight), I couldn't say if a new device would fix it.  I don't know if the TV itself and some kind of weird incompatibility comes into play.
