I had a Roku stick and my optical-linked sound bar worked fine. I now have a new roku express and the sound bar only works during commercials, there is no sound on the streaming shows. The sound is there if I run the sound thru the TV and not the sound bar.

Your sound bar likely does not support the audio setting you have your Roku set to. Your TV speakers are "Stereo". Your sound bar may only support "Stereo". TV commercials have low quality audio in "Stereo or Mono". When your Roku is setup to use the sound bar you likely have a Dolby audio setting that the sound bar does not support. Try changing it to "Stereo".
