Setting Up Roku Without Entering Credit Card Information

When I moved into my new home recently and tried to set up internet and streaming services, my recently purchased Roku tv worked fine using my antenna, but when the cable tech tried to get it set up for me, it asks for my credit card number and additional information and he said there is nothing he can do to get it set up until I resolve this issue.

I can not have my tv held hostage by Roku because I do not want to provide my credit card information.  What do I have to do not to waste the money that I spent purchasing this tv?

  • Welcome, trsh57dish!

You can activate your Roku without adding any credit card or payment details.

    Here's how to do it:

    1. Start the Roku setup on your TV: Follow the on-screen instructions until you're prompted to link your device to a Roku account.
    2. Go to my.roku.com/signup: Create a new Roku account using your email and password.
    3. Skip the payment info: When asked to enter credit card or PayPal details, look for the "Skip and continue" option at the bottom of the page.
    4. Once your account is created and linked, your Roku will be ready to use.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you need more info.

  • That's interesting.  I just created two Roku accounts using two different browsers and I wasn't even asked to enter a payment method.  (Didn't even need to skip.)  Are you not asked until you link a device?

Total bull**bleep**. I just set up a new Roku stick plus and there was absolutely no way to get it connected without giving you all my credit card information. I tried everything to get out of it and there is absolutely no way. You greedy corporate dicks are lying through your teeth. The ONLY way is to give up all your information and then go back into your account and delete your payment info. Of course you have to TRUST that they actually delete it, but the fact that they won't even let you use their products until you hand over all your personal information tells me that they aren't really deleting it, just making you think it's been deleted. Just another corporate monster using their leverage to extract every last penny they can from your wallet. Just once I'd like to see a company that actually cared about providing it's customers with a quality product/service instead of just milking them for everything they can get away with.

        Hi jeflatt

We understand you’d prefer not to add a payment method when setting up your Roku Streaming Stick. Just a heads up: there should be an option like “Skip this step” during setup.

If you don’t see it, you can always remove your payment method later through your Roku account.

Hope this helps! Let us know if you need more info.

If you don't intend on using it for streaming, don't connect it to the Internet and use it as a "dumb" TV.  Otherwise, set up a Roku account without a credit card:
