Roku volume control, out of control

When using remote to increase or decrease volume, the volume takes off all the way up or down (respectively). I have paired and used 2 completely different remotes and the issue still exists. This started about 2 - 3 months ago.  And it happens on several different apps (Netflix, Paramount+, etc.). Since remote is not the problem, it must be a software issue.

  • We're on our third Roku Ultra streamer in a year. Latest one installed today, 09/05/23. Within 3 hrs the remote volume control took off on its own to a 100 setting, just like the other replaced Ultras. Doesn't happen when we use the Sony factory controller for volume control. What up with all of this annoying!

Well I'm having the same crazy volume trouble with my Roku Ultra and also audible volume seems to turn on when it feels like also. I also have a Sony tv and am wondering if that has anything to do with it. I am using my Sony remote for volume control now and so far it seems to only do this with the Roku remote. I hit the home and back buttons when this happened and it indicated software version 12.5.0, build 4175-c2. Issue ID...LH-429-269

Welcome, and thank you for joining us here in the Roku Community, POOSK!

We appreciate you for raising your remote issues with us.

No worries. We have already requested additional help from our Support team for further advice and assistance. Kindly keep an eye out for your inbox, as they will reach you through your email.

In the meantime, you can install the Roku mobile app as an alternative to your physical remote. It works well with all of Roku's streaming devices and has a private listening feature.

Feel free to let us know if there's anything else we can be of assistance with, and we'd be more than happy to continue doing so.

        Best regards,
        Carly

  • Mine has also been flippant. It started about 6 months ago.

While Muting commercials my volume would stutter On/Off quickly for 8 rotations. I could stop it by pressing Mute/Vol Up/Down. But it has become very annoying! I thought it was just on #Pluto or #ParamountPlus but it happened on #Netflix as well.

What is wrong with the RokuRemote lately?!

    I own Roku Ultra 2020.

  • Perhaps this will help, I'm open to try anything to work:

If you find that the power and volume buttons only work sometimes, it is likely that your remote is using IR to send these commands to your TV. To confirm this is the case, first make sure you can adjust volume when pointing your remote directly at your TV. Next, cup your hand over the front of your remote, then point it away from your TV and try again. If volume cannot be adjusted using this test, your remote is using IR.

My volume no longer works when I have the ear buds plugged into the remote.  When I scroll down the apps it automatically pushes to the cursor to the left.  Also, when selecting the asterict /star it automatically goes to Sling.  Can any of these be fixed or is the remote no longer usable?
