Roku voice remote Refuses to Pair to my Roku Stick, and it’s a day old

my roku voice remote will not pair to my roku stick. I am stuck on the “Let’s get started” and “Language” page. I’ve tried holding down the back and home buttons at the same time for 5 seconds, it has not worked. A loading screen appears like the remote is trying to connect, but the screen seems to time out after a minute and the remote is still unconnected. This is a day old remote, and I am unsure what to do now. My remote does not have a reset button where the batteries are either.

    Is this a new remote with an old stick?  What's the model number of the stick written on it somewhere?  If it's 3500, the new remotes won't work.  If it's some other model, some require the USB cable with the Wi-Fi receiver embedded in it and if that fails (or isn't present) the remote won't pair.
