Roku Universal Remote for non Roku TVs

I just bought a Philips Google TV and dont like the smart part of the TV.  Ive always had Rokus or Roku TVs and love them!! I thought this new tv was a Roku but is not...So I wanna buy a Roku to hook up but wanna buy a Roku Universal Remote as well...if anyone has the universal remote...Will it control the tv volume and on/off  as well so I wont have to use the original remote to the tv? Thanks for any help!!

I wouldn't call any Roku remote a universal remote.  Roku remotes with TV controls can control the volume and power of most TVs (I'm sure Philips is included), but that's all and that may be all you need if you use a Roku device and nothing else (i.e., no cable box, no antenna TV, no Blu-ray player, etc.).  Keep in mind that that there's no way to use the Roku remote to do things like change the TV's input or change channels on the TV or set a sleep timer.  You'd need the TV's remote for those things as well as to change any settings on the TV (e.g., brightness, color) and anything buried in the TV's menus.  There are true universal remotes from 3rd parties that would control everything on the Roku as well as everything on the TV, but only if your Roku device is not a stick that plugs directly into the TV without the need for an HDMI cable.
