Roku Ultra remote keeps becoming unresponsive

The remote for my Roku Ultra (YP00D4412928) has recently started failing to control the device. It successfully triggers the TV to turn on and allows to select and start a channel, but then, during playback, it will randomly stop working and require the batteries to be removed and re-inserted before connecting to the device again. This can happen multiple times in an hour. I've tried replacing the batteries and the troubleshooting steps listed in the support library. This is the original remote that came with the unit. Thanks for any help.

Hi, RokuTakashi - thank you for the suggestions. $30 for a replacement Ultra remote is pretty steep, but I will consider that as a last resort. I have tried the Roku mobile app and it works but it drains my phone's battery excessively, so it's not a long-term solution.

  • While I'm not an expert on this topic, the remote uses WiFi direct and from the sounds of it, it might be due to WiFi congestion..Do you live in a condo or apartment where there is lots of wireless congestion? If so, you might want to analyze which channels are being used and select a different one on your router 🙂

I purchased a remote 5 months ago and also have issues with the buttons.  All the other buttons are fine but the RIGHT button sticks, need to press it very hard in order to work.

My family members are very frustrated with these remotes, unfortunately ROKU only offers a 30 day return policy, one where I can't find on their website and it doesn't matter because it's been over 30 days.

I will have to resort to either purchasing another remote or move over to APPLE tv.

jontalk - thanks for the suggestion. This shouldn't be a problem in my case, but I will check it out. I assumed the remote was using Bluetooth so I have not really looked at the WiFi channels.
