Roku TV Powering On for first time each day

I bought a Roku 40" select 40R3B5/40R3BX for my eldery mom's assisted living apartment. It is hooked only to a simple cable box from Spectrum. I have programmed the Spectrum universal remote with many different codes. One of the codes makes the Spectrum remote work perfectly on both the box and the tv. This is great, because more than one simple remote is too confusing for mom. But, weirdly, every day, the TV must be turned on once with the Roku remote before the Spectrum remote will control the on/off function. Turn the TV on once with the Roku remote, and then it will turn on and off all day with the Spectrum remote. But the next day, same thing. I messed with the power savier and bandwith saver and sleep timer and eventually, it worked well for a few days. Now I can't seem to make it work again. Any ideas?

  • Hi, dezparker

    Welcome!

Thanks for sharing your concern about the remote codings with Spectrum's universal remote. I'm here to refer you to the right support.

It is advisable to contact Spectrum's support for more information about the functionality of their remote. Additionally, it’s important to note that Roku remotes are highly recommended for use with Roku devices or Roku TVs, as using other remotes may lead to complex functions due to different coding.

To contact them, refer to Spectrum Support

Hope this will be addressed soon.

    Thanks,

  • The Roku SMART TV that we purchased is Wi-Fi based.  The Spectrum remote works only after the TV has been turned on with the provided remote.

      Hey, GKrex4d.

      We're glad you reached out!

It looks like you're experiencing trouble with the Spectrum remote.

Can you please share what Roku TV model you have? Also, is this the first time that this has happened?

      We'll wait for your response!

The solution is to return the Roku brand (self-manufactured) TV and get a TCL or other brand of Roku platform TV that doesn't use wifi for the remote.  So that's what I did.  Congrats on making such a horrible product design decision, Roku.  I like your streaming platform, but your wifi remote makes the TV unworthy of ownership.

Spectrum is no help.  The problem is something with the TV.  The TV resets every night. I only have to use the roku remote once each morning and the universal remote works fine the rest if the day.

The Roku remote is controlling the Roku tv by Wifi, unlike the spectrum remote which is controlling the tv by IR. Why the Roku tv isn't awakening from standby via IR commands I haven't the clue? Sorry. I don't own Roku branded Roku tv to test on.

A possible cause might be you have entered the wrong Power On/Off code for the TV when setting up the Spectrum remote. I noticed when I did my spectrum remote and TCL TV that problem when I accepted the first code it found for the TV power On/Off.

Just try reprogramming the Spectrum remote again but don't accept the first code it gives you.

I have tried every code suggestion I can find.  Only one of them works.  Even then, the universal remote only works to power on the TV after powering on the TV with the toku remote once each morning
