Okay, we've ruled out a Stick.
And you're saying the words "Model No." don't appear on the box? Not on the bottom of the box, for instance? Because Roku usually puts the model number on the device itself.
Apart from that, the fact that you're seeing a green light indicates the remote's batteries are working. New batteries might still help.
Since it's not a Stick, an IR remote will work on that box. If you have a universal remote lying around anywhere, or want to spend $5 or so on a cheap universal remote from Family Dollar, Walmart, or some other place (as long as it's compatible with Roku), you could use it to set it up.
I'm curious. How did you get the device? I don't need details, of course, but "found in a drawer", "bought from a store", or some history on the device might help.
If it's a current device, and you're in the U.S. -- you didn't put your location on your profile -- then it's either a Roku Express, Express+, Premiere, Premiere+, or Ultra. If it's an older device, it could be one of any number of models. So, history might help. - DBDukesCommunity Streaming Expert

Could be there's a problem with the wireless on the Roku. Could be a problem with the remote. That's what troubleshooting is hoping to determine.
As for your "I'm not sure" I can't tell what that's referring to. As my first question is a simple yes or no which you should be able to answer by looking, as you did to get the serial number, I'm assuming it's not that. As for the history, I'm unsure how you can be unsure about your history with the box. So, I'm not getting a good feeling about your answers.
I'm willing to help. I'm not willing to pull teeth. If you won't answer questions, fine. Someone else will come along that will put up with that.- CorgBeeNewbie
My Roku Ultra model: 4670X suddenly stopped working on WIFI . It would not find any available WIFI networks, even though there are at least 6 networks within range. I did a factory reset and am unable to advance past the "select language" stage of setup. I believe that you are correct in that the Roku WIFI antenna must be operating in order to complete the setup. Thanks for helping me confirm the issue with my Roku Ultra.

CorgBee, I don't know if Wi-Fi must be working to get through the setup, but your 4670 came with a Wi-Fi direct remote, so it must be working for the remote to work. If you can use a wired connection and an IR remote you may be able to salvage some use out of it. If you can get through the setup you could also use the app on your phone/tablet as a remote.

Remote wouldn't sync so I hard reset the roku by pressing reset button on back. It went to setup language page but when I tried holding sync button in battery department. Nothing happens. Help
Start simply. Check your batteries. You said "nothing happens" which could mean you didn't get a light on the remote. So, check the batteries.
Apart from that, it's always helpful to provide which Roku, including the model number, with which you're experiencing the issue. See the Forum Rules for other suggestions on helpful information to provide.
One other thing: you said the remote wouldn't sync. Normally, for devices that use WiFi Direct remotes (IR remotes don't sync), you should not have to sync it beyond the initial setup of the Roku device. So, if you've been having to sync the remote, state that. Otherwise, it might be helpful to explain what caused you to need to sync it (beyond the initial setup) anyway.- shonta1914Newbie
I have a Roku device model number 3930X and during setup, it gets stuck on the language choice screen as well. Changed out the batteries, pressed the reset on the back of the device it still gets stuck on the language choice screen. Please help!

Thanks for the post.
If you are unable to resolve the issue you are experiencing, please send me a PM (private message) with your Roku account email address, and include the serial number/device ID on the Roku device along with a summary of the issue you are experiencing. I'll be able to assist you further from there.
Thanks,

Hey, I just wanted to thank you for saving me a ton of time and cursing. I had absolutely no idea that the Roku voice remote has a pairing button under the lid in the battery compartment. I was just about ready to go to Walmart after I found someone who has a truck and get another 70". I look at the screen and I am constantly saying, that's a big TV. Thanks again for the help.

Just purchased a Roku streaming stick 4K. The serial number appears to be 8010002692. The remote did, I think, pair with the stick or whatever else it's supposed to pair with. Then I pressed OK to confirm the language & nothing on the control works - won't scroll or move to 2nd page of setup. Tried everything - reset button, removing batteries & reinserting, moving remote nearer to the player. Do you think the new remote is a dud?

Hi Luddite52
Thanks for reaching out here in the Community!
We would recommend starting with the troubleshooting steps available in this support link: How to fix your Roku voice or simple remote that is not working. If still no dice, please provide us with the serial number of the Roku device associated with the affected remote. This can be found on the back of the stick itself. We'll be able to further assist you from there.
All the best,
Kariza

- RokuTannerDRetired Moderatorchasedean Thanks for the note. If you are still running into issues with your remote, try looking here for help with models that use an IR remote:
https://support.roku.com/article/360004 ... ed-remote-
Typically, replacing the batteries and/or restarting the device should help clear up these types of issues. You'll also want to make sure your remote has a clear line of sight to your Roku device, if it uses an IR remote. (As a side note, if you are trying to use a different Roku remote that wasn't originally sold with your device, it may not be compatible depending on the models of device and remote.)
Please feel free to PM me directly if you need more help from there!

Thanks for the inquiry.
It seems like your remote isn't pairing to the Roku streaming stick.
For information on how to pair your remote to your device visit our Support page here: How do I set up my Roku® enhanced "point-anywhere" remote?
Please keep us posted.

Mine is doing that too where it's stuck on language setup but the remote works. It turns the TV on and off. Just won't let me select english.
- renojimCommunity Streaming Expert
Haley8924, I assume you don't have a Roku TV. It would help to know the model number of your Roku device written on it somewhere. For the devices that come with the remote that has TV controls those controls are completely separate from the Roku controls and the remote must be paired to the Roku device. Find the pairing button on the back or inside the battery compartment and press and hold it until the green LED starts flashing. Unplug the power from the Roku for a few seconds and plug it back in. Once it reboots it should find the remote. Make sure you have good batteries and keep it close to the Roku.

I had the same problem with 2 TCL Roku TVs 65R625 and 55R625 recently. The screen is stuck in the Let's Get Started Language screen and will not advanced. The lights on the remote blink green and the remote will turn the TV Off and On but will not do anything else. I was with TCL Tech Support for almost 2 hours and they were not able to walk me thru. I finally returned both TVs and purchased a Samsung. Until this tread I thought I was the only one in the world with that problem as all setup videos assume that the remote steps right thru setup.

My new Roku was stuck like yours, tried all suggestions, was ready to return it.
Finally found the problem. We have multiple Roku players in our house, I had disconnected all players and removed batteries from all remotes, remembered that I had plugged in the new Roku before I had
had disconnected everything completely. Checked my 'Settings' in the menu of my older Roku, went to
'Remote' and there it showed that it had '2' active remotes connected!
Deleted 1 of them, disconnected the player, took batteries out of that remote, went back to the TV I was setting up, it started 'pairing remote' right away.
Never saw this suggestion by anyone, So I hope this helps.
