Roku stick keeps randomly losing sound

I received a Roku stick about a week ago and ever since it will keep randomly drop the sound. The first couple of times it happened after leaving Youtube on pause for a while but today it started doing it mid-show, one Youtube and one Hulu. The sound will work again after turning off and back on. Both the Roku and my TV are up to date.

Any ideas?

Don't know why this was marked solved because it is not. I got the extender, tried a different input, and to no surprise the sounds still drops.

I guess the solution is to just not use a roku on this particular tv.

      Thanks for the update! JenZee

We’d like to confirm if the audio works properly on your TV without the Roku device connected. Since you mentioned it works fine on your Toshiba TV, please try accessing the channel directly on your Vizio TV to determine whether the issue lies with the Roku stick or the TV itself.

Due to the location of the other ports and the design of the Roku, I can't plug it into any other ports.

It is still losing sound randomly but now does not go black for a second before it does. I'm not certain if that's a win since I still have to reset my TV every half hour.

My only conclusion is that the Roku does not work on a Vizio E48-D0. Maybe because it has SmartCast, I don't know. It was a great disappointment and will be returned.

      Hi there! JenZee

Since you're having trouble connecting your Roku Stick to other HDMI ports, we recommend trying an HDMI extender. You can get one here: Roku | HDMI® extender

Once you have it, try plugging the Roku Stick into different ports using the extender and see if the issue continues.

    Here you go,

    -Device model = 3840R-Streaming Stick, Serial number = x02600vl6h82, Device ID = s1gh353l6h82

    -Tracker ID = 82-403-844, OS = ? Software = 14.6.4

    -YouTube = 245, Hulu = 2, Prime = 2025100116

I have other streaming services but haven't watched them yet on this system so I don't know if they have the same issue. It's really annoying.

Thank you for the detailed instructions.

    Welcome, JenZee

From what you’ve shared, it seems the Roku Stick is intermittently dropping sound on YouTube and occasionally on Hulu. Thanks for testing a few fixes. Could you share a few more details?

    • Is the issue happening with every show on YouTube and Hulu, or just one in particular?
    • When did the issue first start?

In the meantime, you can perform a full system restart on your Roku device by navigating to Settings > System > Power > System restart. If the Power option isn’t available, simply go to Settings > System > System Restart.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

It does not seem to happen for any specific show. The screen will go black for a second and when it comes back on there is no sound.

I've only had the Roku about a week and it has happened everyday since.

I just lost sound again and tried the system restart. When I opened Youtube again, there was still no sound. I had to restart my TV to get sound back. Just FYI I never had this issue when I had a FireStick so I don't know if there is something between the Roku and my TV. I have a Vizio TV.

      Thank you
