Someone noticed the same thing last Friday. I was able to do it too with a universal remote, but it never changed channels. My TV is TCL.
If they're implementing this, I hope it won't be tedious. I.e., it would be nice if you could just key the channel number, without the subchannel "-1". Sometimes I just want to get close, not be a perfectionist about it.
Similarly, I hope they would allow us to go to any channel (even if hidden or no signal). Again, sometimes I just want to get closer to the 3 to 10 range, or 45-55. I might just type in 48 without any concern for what is actually there. I just want to easily get into the range, then "up" (or "down") arrow to go to 45 or 51. I don't want choose before going there. Just closer.
If they did it that way, then they could let us access the "hide" list (which would be nice if it had a "fav" column too) from the channel we're watching, deposit us into that list with the current channel selected so we can easily hide or unhide it.
If they did it this way, they could also let us add channels that weren't picked up during the scan (instead of having to do a destructive rescan). If you see a new channel in an online guide (a good reason to use an online guide instead of Roku's, which won't display all channels), you could type in that number (on the remote), and then enter the RF number to add that channel to the existing list of channels.
I found an easy way to change channel to specific number. I have an iPhone it might work on android.
1. Get Roku app
2. Connect app to tv so remote is enabled
3. press the microphone icon and say “change channel to 45”
ps: if you say change to tnt it will open the tnt app so you need to say the number.

Actually, you can just say: "channel #" to switch OTA channels in Live TV. This even works for subchannels e.g.: "channel 10 point 2". (using the Android app - assuming it works the same in the iOS app).
Unfortunately, this does not seem to work for the streaming channels now listed after the OTA channels in the latest update of the TV (TCL) app - it just switches to the nearest available OTA channel. Maybe there is a secret magic phrase, but I haven't figured it out yet.

I tried that and it didn't take me to the channel I wanted. It actually acted like it didn't exist. Popped up all other things for me to choose from, but none was the one I wanted.

I can't even get the app to understand my voice input, it has access to the mic, but plays stupid every time I use it

That doesn't always work. Some of the channels aren't recognized by Roku. I have a channel I used to watch all the time but I no longer can because apparently Roku doesn't know it exists. I can't even scroll to it. Just jumps right over it.

Have you tried rescanning your channels? Maybe the channel has been repacked?
