Roku Remote not entering pairing mode

RC-AL2 voice remote for 3800x streaming stick.  Remote will not enter pairing mode. 

New batteries.  Pressed and held the pairing/reset button for ~25 seconds (I saw a suggestion for "at least 20", then again for 5 sec to begin pairing. 

Also tried "Home+Back" button combination.

No blinking light, Streaming stick will not recognize pairing attempt.  (This will be a backup remote--one already works just fine)

Is there an engineering-level reset code, or is the nearest trash can the most suitable destination?

Side note...Lots of people have created threads the same issue, But you only send the solution to the initial poster in a private message.  This being a community forum, why can you not post the solution to the community?  Then we don't have to create 200 threads for the exact same issue?  Kindof defeats the purpose of a community forum, don't you think?

    I think if the remote is showing no signs of live, it's dead.

    The "solution" sent to people is probably that if the remote is still under warranty, we'll send you a new one.  If not, here's what you need to buy.  I doubt people are getting a solution that actually fixes the remote.
