  • Hello Amymetzger, thank you for reporting this issue to the Roku Community!

We can see you're having an issue with your Roku TV remote, and we appreciate the efforts you've put into troubleshooting it so far.

Have you attempted to reset your remote? We suggest changing the batteries and trying to reset your Roku remote by pressing and holding the Back and Home buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds. After doing so, pair it again to see if this makes any difference.

We would recommend trying to see if that resolves your issue. Please keep us posted.

    Thanks,

I didn’t think to look for other fixes first, but I did a complete reset of my TV and now my remote is working well.

Prior, I felt like I was pushing the remote buttons super hard and deliberately, and repeatedly, in order to make the remote work at all.  And hitting the buttons multiple times per intended input meant that the remote was eating batteries too.

Next time I’ll try the hold-the-back-buttton fix first.

**I should add that this behavior was consistent with two remotes - one an OEM Roku TV remote, and the other an aftermarket one purchased on Amazon that had worked well for a year or two before both became unresponsive.  Also, this isn't a new TV - it's a 65S423 purchased at Costco  - which I'm pretty sure I've owned since early 2019.  The reason I jumped at the reset option straight away is that it has never been factory reset in the 6 years that I've owned it.  Figured it was time.  Have to say though that in spite of the fact that this TV isn't the greatest (purchased at the time because it was inexpensive - $600 maybe), it's held up well insofar as my apps still work and's fine for occasional Xbox gaming.

Attempted this fix multiple times. No change in issue. Installed new batteries multiple times. Very frustrating. Not sure the expected life of the ROKU remotes?

Exhausted all attempts to fix this remote finally just threw it away and purchased a new remote. No issues with the new one

      • Same here. What remote works well with JVC roku TV, I want a good one. My roku box remote works under blankets, backwords, I want one like that for the JVC tv, it is soo bad.

I had taken apart my Insignia RokuTV remote a few times and cleaned all the contacts to get it back to working properly. (worked much better every time I did this).

I eventually just paired one of my Roku Voice Remotes to it and stopped using the remote that came with the RokuTV. (much better experience).

Once the Roku OS started to bog down the RokuTV performance, I just stopped using the RokuTV.
