Roku remote charging is intermittent

We are now on our third Roku rechargeable remote (for $30 each) in the space of 18 months. It seems that the micro USB connector on the remote is intermittent inside the remote, so when you plug it in with the charging cable sometimes the green light comes on, and sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes you can wiggle it a lot or unplug it and replug it and it works, but the reason we are on our third remote is because ultimately it fails completely. This seems to be a poor design by Roku. I even wrote the president and got no reply. So another $30 goes to Amazon.

  • Welcome to the Roku Community, PastorDon!

We understand that you are experiencing issues with intermittent charging of your Roku remote. We would like to recommend that you try the following steps to see if it makes any difference.

    • Test with different power outlets, micro USB cables, and USB chargers.
    • Reset the remote: Press and hold the Back/pairing button and Home buttons simultaneously for about 20 seconds. For detailed instructions on how to reset the remote, you can refer to this support link: How to fix your Roku voice remote that is not working | Roku.

This should resolve the issue you are experiencing; however, if it is still unresolved, please reply, and we will be able to assist you further.

    Thanks,

  • Thank you for keeping us posted, Bakerdds!

We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. We understand that using your phone apps or navigating with the Roku mobile app may still be possible, but it may not fully meet all your needs.

The Roku Voice Remote Pro (2nd edition) doesn't have a headphone jack. However, the Roku mobile app can be a good alternative. The Roku Mobile App headphone mode lets you connect your Bluetooth headphones and immerse yourself in a solo streaming session.

To help with your concern, you can consider our Roku Voice Remote Pro, which has a headphone jack and is a rechargeable remote that works with any available (wired) headphones.

We hope this information is helpful. Please don't hesitate to ask for further clarification or assistance.

    Thanks,
    Jharra

        Hi, Lifesaver

Thanks for posting, and welcome to the Roku Community.

I appreciate your inquiry on the indication of the charging status with the Roku Voice Remote Pro.

The status light flashes slowly when charging and turns solid when complete

Additionally, here's the guide on charging your Roku Voice Remote Pro.

        • Roku Voice Remote Pro: From empty, a full charge takes 3 hours and typically lasts 2 months. Using Headphone Mode will drain the battery more quickly.
        • Roku Voice Remote Pro (2nd edition): From empty, a full charge takes 5.5 hours and typically lasts 3 months.

For more information, you can visit this support article on Getting to know your Roku Voice Remote Pro

Hope this helps, and let us know if you have further concerns or inquries.

  • I think the upgrade should be resolved with  new version with usb-c. Many of my micro USB charging ports have broken, with a disabled adult trying to plug it in, they break, finally usb-c!

BUT THEY TOOK AWAY THE HEADPHONE JACK!! For a household with an adult with Down’s Syndrome it is devastating that lose the headphone jack. He cannot understand Bluetooth or keep them charged. He is able to use the awesome Roku simplicity and operate his TV, but NOBODY wants to listen to The Wiggles all day long. His headphones connected to the remote are a game changer. I. Bought a 15 foot micro usb and taped it to the remote and a wall-wart, so he never runs out of juice when he is home in the evening. Now they do make the other version for now, but these to wear out or get lost. Big loss to remove the headphone jack for me.
