Roku remote app stipped connecting

The official roku app remote is no longer finding my tv.  Both on my Android phone and my wife's.  I have gone through the trouble shooting on previous posts.  

1) restarted and updated roku on TV and app

2) confirmed both are on the same wifi including the channel

3) tried manually connecting with ip
