  • The software on my Roco smart TV was updated in mid-December (or so).  Since that time (I can only suspect), while watching live OTA Broadcast TV, the info screen pops up without prompting.  (This is the portion of the screen at the bottom that has info about signal strength, current time, the name of the show current being watched, the plot synopsis, etc.)  This happens about 90 seconds into a newly chosen channel and also about 90 seconds after a new show starts on the same channel.  This is VERY annoying!  I KNOW WHAT I'M WATCHING!  ...;and if I don't, I can hit the "OK" on my remote and get this screen for myself.

Coupled with this problem........when I'm brousing through the channels for a show to watch, after some period of time -- before I'm through brousing -- it kicks me out of the channel brousing screen and back to the channel and show having been selected previously.  This is EXTREMELY annoying!  If I want to continue to brouse, I have to start all over again.

I have experienced the same thing.  Glad it’s not just me. I have a RCA Roku TV.  This happens on both ota and streaming live channels so doesn’t appear to be related to ota signal strength fluctuations.

Also my signal strength bar is 5 bars on many stations when it just used to be one. Weird.

Ditto for me on a TCL TV.  Started happening right after the "update debacle" that occurred just last Jan 15/16 I think.  Pushed an update that complete borked the TV, put it into a boot loop.  Couldn't do anything until I did a complete reset, and had to set everything back up again.

Since that time, I've had this behavior

Same here & this problem is very annoying!  Been going on for about a month now for me. Problem happens on OTA and Roku Live TV channels/menus. I have two TCL Roku TVs which have the same exact problem. Info shows up without asking and takes me back to the channel I'm watching while browsing the channel guides/line ups. Otherwise, the channel info continues to show up without asking for it.

What is the fix or when can we expect a response from Roku?

Well, we continue to be at the top of the problem feed.  Keep posting, and keep giving kudos.  Maybe we'll get a response at some point.

I have the same exact issue on my Hisense Roku tv model 50R6 ... This has been happening for several months now.   Seems to occur more often on channels with lower signal strength but sometimes happens on high strength channels too.  I tried removing the USB memory stick that allows pause/rewind etc  but tv still does it.    My guess is a roku software issue.   TV and remote seems to  work fine otherwise.   Can I get an opinion from Roku support please.

Using a Hisense Roku TV, about a year old, OTA antenna and stream channels combined in the guide.  Also have a USB connected for pause/rewind.  Last update reported by TV:  Dec 16 11:28 pm

After 1 minute, channel info pops up after changing to a channel or initial power on within a channel.  If the guide is up after changing the channel and playing in the background, the pop-up will happen as well and actually change the channel to what channel you are scrolling through in the guide.

So far this removed the guide info pop-up after 1 minute issue for me, changed from Default to Disabled for Control by mobile apps:

        Home-->Settings-->System-->Advanced system settings-->Control by mobile apps-->Network access-->Disabled

I have not had the channel info pop-up since--I even changed the Control by mobile apps back to Default and it is still no longer coming up--not sure if fiddling with that setting set it straight but it is working for me so far...

New tv? During initial setup you choose store demo mode or home use. I can't find a menu option for this after set up is finished. Unless somebody can suggest one you may need to perform a factory reset and go through the setup procedure again.
  • Go to: Settings > System > Store Settings and uncheck "show store marketing messages"

There it is - very simple 😊

Settings>System> There is NO Store Settings option.  And I have never come across Show Store Marketing Messages.

Keep in mind - not everyone will have the Store Settings option on their smart TV setup like mine but it doesn't hurt to check since it did solve my menu popup issue.

  • In the live TV app. Channel guide for over the air HDTV. TV Guide is not showing any information. It just says no information available. TV is connected to the Internet. I contacted TCL and they said get ahold of you guys. After going through several trouble shooting steps.

Well we're on the same boat I know what I'm doing put the pickaxe through it and going getting something else that's it for Roku I am done

  • Go to settings/system/store settings

    uncheck box.

if this doesn’t work (usually this is the issue) then go to advanced system settings and factory reset.

  • Sadly, you’ll have factory reset your tv and set up your tv(same as you first bought it) there’s a section that allows you to choose between “set as home tv” and “set as store tv”. After everything is set, it shouldn’t pop up anymore. I did it and it worked! Hope it does for you too

Factory reset should not be necessary. There's a setting within the menu to turn Store mode off.
