Roku keep losing the connection to my modem.

Tonight was awful! We were watching the Spelling Bee when our system went down. First thing I thought of was my internet provider. We rebooted our modem. But the problem continued. So, we rebooted Roku. That worked...for a while. All night long I had to go back into Roku to reset the network. My service provider never went down. I had internet on my laptop and my phone. But Roku keep losing the connection to my modem. What's going on with this? What can be done?

Thanks,

Marianne

  • It’s been happening to me for the last week, a few times a day. Very frustrating.

I fixed the problem by buying a Firestick

I am having the same issue and it is very frustrating! I replaced the Roku with another Roku Express and it does the same thing.

Same thing.   It started as a random connectivity issue to now, it won't connect.  All other devices work well in house...only the ROKU will not connect.

Nope, that didn't work. It lasted for an hour before it lost its connection. Guess I'll have to move to Fire TV.

I finally dug out my old Roku stick and started using that instead of the HD+ unit. We have had constance viewing. No problems at all!

Except that the company's website, and my stick both went down at the same time. It was down thru the afternoon and evening. This morning the website is up and the stick is working again.

I'll try reconnecting my HD box unit and see what I get. I'm hoping the outage the company experience yesterday was due to a global update and my unit will work again, like it did for the last year or two.

Come back and let us know! My old, non-HDD unit is upstairs and it's really, really old so I didn't want to try and hook it up. I suppose I could have tried since like I mentioned, the Roku TV stayed connected and didn't have the problem at all. The real frustration is the lack of any kind of response other than, 'push this button, push that button, report back,' and that's it when clearly, it happened after the last update according to everyone here who is reporting the problem. So either they didn't bother to test the update on all of their current models, or they did and knowing there was a problem, pushed it out there anyway.

  • This is frustrating!  I have 2 Roku devices that continue to drop connection.  I know that it is not the internet provider.  The circle of lost connection appears and makes a 30 min show into 45 mins.  Please patch these!  Sling, Discovery Plus, Amazon Prime, etc all go into this trance.

I am having the same problem! Started about a week ago.  No connection. I purchased 2 Roku 4k+ 8/22 & last week my main one used kept trying to reconnect, I swapped out Rokus, swapped out hdmi ports, swapped out TVS & did 2 factory resets & the longest I could watch was an hour.  I can’t get to Roku support, there’s no one to contact.  I need help!! Does anyone have a solution??

      Fire Stick from Amazon.

  • Same problem here. Mine won't even hold a connection long enough for me to get back to my apps and pick a channel.

I'm on a chat with Roku support and I keep telling him to look at this thread, but all he wants to know is how far my router is from my TV and keeps telling me to reset the router and my television. I want to scream.

I have been dealing with this problem for over 3 weeks. Someone contacted me, I told them what my problem is, but it hasn't been fixed. I've changed my wifi channel, I've unplugged and replugged everything! Waited the prescribed time before reconnecting. Updated everything, everyday. And still we have connectivity issues. I'm so tired of this. We just missed 45 minutes of a 60 minute show waiting for Roku to unfreeze so I can set up the connection...again.

This stress isn't worth it. Sitting directly in front of the TV to reconnect everything is getting very old. When is this going to get fixed???

In the meantime, you just lost another customer.

I don't know why Roku is dropping my connection to my modem, but it was suggested that I move from 5K to 2K and so far it hasn't dropped the connection. I'll get back with a note if it does.

      Hi Community users,

Thank you for pointing this out here at the Roku Community!

We understand that you are having network issues with your Roku streaming device but no worries, we're here to find you the best resolution.

Kindly provide the following details below:

      • Roku device model, serial number, device ID, and software OS/version (these can all be found in Settings > System > About).
      • Tracker ID when this issue occurs (when you see this issue occur, press the Home button 5 times, followed by the Back button 5 times and provide us with this ID)
      • Does this issue occur on a specific channel? if so, what channel and what version/build is the channel (this can be found be selecting the channel on the Home screen and pressing the * button).

Once we get these information, we will be able to pass this along to the appropriate Roku team for further investigation.

      Thanks,

      Carly

This problem started with the last update on May 23, 2023. It happened just a few times until this past week when we had a power outage and now it's happening at least twice an hour for me. I have to go through and reconnect to the internet as if I'm starting from scratch, even though it clearly shows the signal strength is excellent and there are no issues with anything else connected to the internet including the smart TV the Roku is being used on. I've reset the wireless on the Roku, the TV, reset the modem, tried to follow the instructions on an old thread explaining that my Roku Express only works on 2.4g and only on b/g/n which apparently was changeable on older modems but due to xFinity's idiot wisdom, is no longer an option to change with their xFi modems anymore so that's not doable. I will say I've had their modem for months and the Express worked fine until this last update! This is not the modem! But the power outage exacerbated the problem.

No, it's not on one specific channel, no, it's not at one specific time of day, it's all day long, no, I would fill an entire topic if I was expected to sit here and continue all day to go through hitting the home button and back button and giving you info after info over and over again about this problem. I have four Rokus of various levels in this house plus a Roku TV and at this point, with the problems I've had over the last year, we won't be buying Roku again. This past year has been one problem after another, you cannot call for technical help, you cannot chat for technical help, all you can do is post here because any other support takes days and the hoops to jump through are ridiculous. I am fed up. Watching TV shouldn't be this hard.

So far, it's working. I changed the channel on my router/modem, made sure the HDMI was in the right port, and we haven't had a disconnection in many hours. Fingers crossed.
