Roku iPhone app stuck on loadscreen

I’ve been using the Roku mobile app as a remote from my iPhone. But now it won’t work, the mobile app itself just gets stuck on the load screen forever. I’ve deleted and reinstalled multiple times for varying lengths of time, and it still doesn’t work.

  • I just got my wife’s new I phone 14 to work by going to the roku app settings and unchecking the box for enabling cellular data.  I compared the settings on my Iphone 12 with settings for her Iphone 14 and that was the one thing that was changed. Don’t know why it works but it does, so far.

For the past week or so, when I load the Roku app on my phone, I get a "Something went wrong" error.  I've tried deleting and re-installing the app, but that did not help.  Any ideas?

The app now no longer works and gets stuck on the purple “something went wrong” screen at startup as in the screenshot below

I have reset my router and Roku stick, deleted and reinstalled the app and restarted my phone a number of times but have the same issue

I have an iPhone 2020 SE with IOS 16.5.1 with version 9.5.0 of the app

I guess the new version of the app has a bug?

  • I have two iPhones both running iOS 16.5.1 (20F75) - The Roku app for iOS on my iPhone8 loads/runs perfectly - finds all my devices (2 ultras, 2 sticks).  The iPhone14 attempts to load, then fails with “Something went wrong” then, “The app is having trouble connecting. please wait a few minutes, then try again.” Then presents a “Try again” prompt.
***AFTER WAITING 5 MINUTES - I pushed the Try Again prompt and was able to continue on with loading the app then connecting with my device (it saw all 4 devices) as normal.

Not sure what the issue was - but both iPhones are running the same iOS version and the same version of the Roku app… Rebooted both iPhones (used clear memory procedure on startup on both iPhones….  Your mileage may vary… cheers…

Seems fine now - private listening is back! My wife is very grateful!

  • Same here. Tries to load then goes to a purple rolling screensaver with try later at the bottom.

  • Same issue happening with me right now. iPhone SE iOS 16.5.1. This is ridiculous

  • My app quit working, won’t open!  I uninstalled and tried to reinstall but it won’t let me.

Just wanted to add my voice to those affected by this issue.

As of July 7, I am still unable to get the Roku app to load on my iPhone 7 Plus running iOS 15.7.7. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app and that didn't help at all.
