Roku Express Only Works with Internet phone but not Home Wifi
Hello,
I'm reaching out because my Roku Express (model 3940X) stopped working correctly after attempting to install a recent system update. The current software version is 14.1.4, build 7709.
After the update failed initially, I was able to reset the device and successfully install the update by connecting it to my phone’s mobile hotspot. Apps installed without issues while using the hotspot. However, when I switched back to my regular home Wi-Fi, the Roku shows "connected" status with excellent signal strength, but no app (like Disney+, Netflix, etc.) is able to connect to the internet.
Important points:
I've already tried all standard troubleshooting steps: factory reset, network reset, restarting modem/router, and switching Wi-Fi channels.
All my other devices (phones, laptops, smart TVs) connect to my Wi-Fi without any issues.
The Roku works only when using my phone's hotspot, which suggests a potential DNS or compatibility issue with the update.
I've also tried the workaround of changing my router's (Google Wifi) DNS to Google's public DNS (8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4), and even disabled network pings through the Roku secret menu, but nothing has resolved the issue.
At this point, I suspect the problem may be related to the software update 14.1.4 (build 7709) and how it handles network connections.
I would appreciate your guidance or if this can be escalated to the appropriate team.
Thank you for your support.
Best regards,
Jaz
