Roku express has no volume control

Plain Stupid! How in 2024 does a company that sells content for television, movies, apps, etc. sell a "SET" for their devices that exclude volume???

Roku hav fallen down in my formally positive estimation. Disappointing plus!

  • On a forum for my car model, about once a week they get a thread like: How can this car not have feature X!?!?!  You can’t even claim it’s a car without feature X!!!  And the response is some variation on: If you had bought the next trim level up, it would have included feature X.  Choose carefully.

The same goes here.  I chose the Express 4K+ which includes TV controls, including volume, though I don’t use them.  I chose the Express 4K+ over the most basic Express for other reasons.  Likewise, in my car, the trim level I chose has all the stuff I wanted, but also includes a few things I don’t really use.

Choices are great!  Except when you chose incorrectly, I guess! 😀

I’m sure it costs about 3 cents to add volume function in China

        really?!

Power and volume control seem pretty basic - kind of like being able to turn your car on or off, and accelerate. Packaging should make it clear that these “features” (!) are NOT included.

So, list everything that model doesn't offer on the packages?

From 2008 until the beginning of 2018 no Roku remote had tv volume commands. Neither did computation, when Roku did add it, the others followed suit. It took Roku a couple years later to add a mute key. What sets the least expensive model from up next model up is the volume commands. The last released model of Fire tv stick released was entry level model without tv volume on the remote.

On the back of the box I now see the words, simple remote. In the decades, that remote controls have been out for televisions, I’ve never known of one that did not have a volume button. With NO description for simple remote, how is the purchaser supposed to know this has no volume control?

It has taken me nearly 35 minutes to get through all the articles that were not the ones I needed, to finally get to this particular page that admits there’s no volume control. This is maddening! There is a company that has manufactured a device for a television, specifically a remote control, that doesn’t allow one to turn the sound up or down? Idiocy!
If I hadn’t already invested an hour and a half of my time installing this, adding credit card information, changing settings, and looking through support, I would be returning this. Maybe I still will

Just because the Roku model you purchased doesn't come with volume keys, that doesn't mean you can't just upgrade Roku remote to one that does have volume commands. I think it would be much cheap to get aftermarket universal that has Roku code and of course can be programmed for your tv brand. Check the dollar store.

  • For anyone reading this thread...

I recently purchased a roku 4k express to replace an old stick  that was overheating. While my current tv is only hd, the one that replaces it someday will be 4k.I picked it up for $20 as they are being discontinued and I didn't feel like spending $100 for the new model or get another stick. I was greatly disappointed that it didn't come with tv power or volume controls. If your express model is a 3900 series then it will work with roku voice or voice pro remotes that have those features. Mine is 3900 series and I just used my old voice remote from the stick and problem solved. So, if you have and old roku voice remote, use that. Or you can buy one separately.

Hawk41 if your Express is the 3900, it's not 4K. Any 4K version of the Express comes with a Voice Remote, which has TV volume buttons.
