Roku Enhanced Remote no longer controls Sceptre tv volume and power

My Roku remote always controlled the volume and power on my Sceptre tv, but a few days ago it just stopped. I've tried reprogramming the remote in setup and none of the codes stop the music from playing, and setup says it won't work with this Sceptre tv. I've tried a handful of different brands hoping one of their codes would work and still nothing. Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance

  • Same here, Scepter 55".  The remote was working perfectly for the Roku and the TV, then stopped.  I changed the batteries and tried re-pairing.  Now the remote works for the roku, but not the TV.  I go through the pairing process, but the music never stops playing.  I tried the Sony ones too.

I'm having a hard time believing that this was not a software update that stopped supporting my TV.

Yeah, I feel because we don’t have fancy tv’s we are like in steerage on the titanic, nobody over there gives a **bleep**. But if I had an expensive Sony or Samsung, well they got you covered from the first remote ever made!

      🚢🥺😥

Yes I have the same exact tv. My Roku did automatically update and right after the remote quit working for the tv. Same issue when trying to pair again. I found this topic on google. With no answer from Roku. Except the one that was useless. I do believe we all was smart enough to do before looking for answers. So I guess we all have to wait for a new update to fix this. If they decide to make one.

aye, hold yer breath we’re going down with the ship I fear.

  • I had the same problem, in that my Roku remote would not control the volume.  The bottom line is that the Septer Codes don't work. Septer tells you to use "SONY" codes on anything othet than the original equipment Septer remotes!!!    The auto setup on Roku defaults to Septer as my Brand of TV .  Although this is correct, Septer uses Sony Codes.  So, to set your remote up to work, do it manually by going to Settings> remotes>set up remote> choose "CHANGE BRAND".  At this point enter "SONY".  Then follow the set-up process as prompted..."Hear music playing". etc. etc.

When finished, your remote "volume control" and "Power on /off control" will be operational.

The sony codes do not work either, and it seems ROKU gives zero sh*ts about this.

It worked on my Septer.  The Septer manual, under "Remote Control" reads..."This remote follows SONY's universal remote code".

My Roku remote recognized the TV as a Sony after I changed the brand under the prompt.  It may not work for every Septer or every Roku remote, but it di work for mine.

Try telling it you have a sony tv instead of sceptre.

Thank you for the suggestion. I tried Sony and none of those worked. I also tried LG, Samsung, TCL, and Hisense.

When programming the tv, its best to have a line of sight to the roku and the tv, don't have it buried behind the tv and you'll get better results. And use new batteries.

I'm glad it worked for you!  I no longer have the Sceptre TV.  I replaced it with a Roku TV but it deffinetly worked.  I found it critical to follow the programing squence to the "T"!   I hope others find this helpful and suggest that if your first attempt fails to link up, TRY AGAIN! as I did.     Tony

My TV does not support it.  I just wish I knew that before I bought it!

I purchased a Sceptre about a month ago when my Hiscense bit the dust.  My Ultra remote worked with the old TV, but not this one.  I literally have 5 remotes on the coffee table.  Ultra, TV, Sound Bar, Firestick, and DVD player.  Has anyone tried a universal remote?  I've seen a few on Amazon, but not sure what to buy.

  • The remote won’t turn off or adjust volume for my spectre tv. What the heck

Won't work with my new Sceptre either.  I purchased a GE Universal remote from Amazon for $10.  It controls my Sceptre, Roku Ultra, sound bar, and blu-ray.  Also has backlit buttons so you can see in the dark.  It doesn't have audio search (which I hate), so if you need that, you're outta luck.  Controls all basic functions; definitely worth 10 bucks!
