I cannot believe ROKU would suspend the use of your product and their service until you sign a “ I wont join a class Action suit against Roku” Too me it smells like Gorilla tactics strong arming people in the dead of night to hit I won’t sue Class Action prompt. ) ROKU= “ Sorry this TV and these Streaming Devices will no longer work until you agree with us”. That in it self should constitute a violation of some kind and warrant a Class Action suit for strong arming customers in the dead of night. This is my two cents ( or ¢10 Biden inflation).
When I tried to use my Roku Streambar today, suddenly there was a popup window telling me that I had to [immediately] agree to their new terms of the user agreement.
This was completely by surprise. No advance warning was given so users had the opportunity to review the agreement.
i fail to understand how they should be able to alter the agreement of a unit I purchased a couple of years ago. As far as I am concerned, they don't have the right to do this.
Essentially, they are saying you have to agree to our new terms right now or you can't use your unit at all until you do. I can't bypass that popup window by anything short of agreeing to these new terms.
I am a long time Roku user. I have helped a number of my friends set up their Rokus. I have been very happy with the unit. But I am not happy with this.
I am seriously considering getting an Apple TV box rather than submit to this action that I consider akin to holding something that is my own property as hostage.
I glanced through that agreement. My perception is that they are making you agree to arbitrate with them thereby giving up your right to sue them. There is probably more to it as well.
I have to ask why they are so suddenly shoving this down our throats? Have they got something they are afraid they are going to be sued for?
I have an Apple store only eight miles from me. I may pay that store a visit tomorrow afternoon and come home with a new unit.
This is absurd!
The exact wording of the popup is: 'We've Updated our Dispute Resolution Terms. Select 'Agree' to agree with these updated terms and to continue enjoying our products and services.'.
There is no 'Disagree' or way of exiting this popup window. Which means you can't use your own unit.
I contacted Roku via Messenger. They said they would resolve this for me and asked for the text of the message. I photographed it and sent them the image. They have not gotten back to me or even acknowledged the receipt of the image. They haven't let me know when I would hear back from them.
I think this is a pretty sneaky thing to do.

First, they decided that there were certain previously available channels I would no longer be allowed to watch.
Then, they decided that private channels would no longer be supported.
Now, they're holding devices hostage.
I hereby demand, ROKU, that you BUY BACK ALL OF MY DEVICES.

I'm not counsel and you almost need one to explain this agreement. Should anyone have to get counsel just to pay for a service?
Can anyone point to any part of this seemingly one-sided agreement that covers the consumer's rights (besides arbitration) for example for any gross negligence and resulting harm?
FYI, I just got a TOS from another online service I have that besides an arbitration agreement it says it doesn't exclude responsibility for personal injury caused by their negligence etc, etc. I still don't understand it that much but it sounded more considerate than Roku.

Yesterday, I stopped at the Apple Store and purchased an Apple TV box. I have a deadline to meet in the online class I am taking and can’t take the time to install it until I am done. It is a pretty intense assignment that has to be completed by Sunday night.
When I am done, I will be replacing my Roku Streambar.
It is a shame because I was otherwise satisfied with the unit!- NoBiden2 years agoBinge Watcher
What Roku did by bricking the units unless you agree sounds racist to me. I disconnected mine and switched to Amazon Fire. I also filed a complaint with CA AG.

I just filed a complaint on the BBB Web site.
It only takes a few minutes to do.
https://www.bbb.org .
Search on www.roku.com as the name of the business.
Click on Roku and proceed to file the complaint.
while the BBB gives them an A rating, the ratings that BBB has collected from the consumers give them a very low rating.
The number of complaints against them in the past three years is very noticeable.- SoCalChris2 years agoReel Rookie
The BBB has absolutely no authority to do anything; they're exactly like Yelp. A private company who encourages businesses to pay them to encourage good reviews. Complaining to them is a waste of your time.
Instead, file a complaint with your state's att0rney general office, and the California AG office if you're in a different state since Roku is a California company.
And Roku, this is some BS. Won't even allow you to post a reply with the word att0rney??? Screw you even more.
The message body contains att0rney, which is not permitted in this community. Please remove this content before sending your post.

The BBB is not the only complaint I filed. I was clear about the FTC and my ATT General also getting a complaint. I have my complaint written for the Cali Att Gen as well as other places.
It never hurts to put the complaint in more places than just a few. 1) It's like using social media to bud light companies. More people will see it because people DO check the BBB for complaints against companies. And 2) You have more proof that you asked for help if the need arises.
I also have a recorded phone call with a foreign Hisense "tech specialist" who flat out told me I HAD to agree to it to get the block removed and there was NO WAY to remove Roku from the television.

I SAW THIS ON MY SCREEN AND I READ THROUGH IT AND IT SEEMS THAT THEY'RE EXPECTING SOME KIND OF A ARBITRATION AND THEY'RE TRYING TO GET US TO AGREE IMMEDIATELY TO NOT SUE THEM. I DO NOT AGREE AND I WILL NOT EVER AGREE TO THAT. SO THEY ARE TAKING OFF PROACTIVE APPROACH. IT'S CRAZY CUZ THEY WASN'T EVEN LET ME SAY THE WORD LS SO I HAD TO USE ARBITRATION INSTEAD

cstout18 the terms of use agreement you already accepted when you set up your Roku already had arbitration as the method of addressing any grievances. This update did not change that.

Just stopped by to tell Roku they can go **bleep** themselves. I will not accept the TOS and have already unplugged my Ultra from the internet. If it will continue to work as a media player, fine. If not, I have a nice 16 oz hammer that will be introducing itself the Ultra.
Needless to say, I'll never consider purchasing any product that has Roku associated with it.
Great job guys.
